Empowering special minds with patience, dignity, and purpose.

Founded in 1999 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Akhil Bhartiya Apang Kalyankari Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha (ABAKBS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the education, rehabilitation, and empowerment of children and youth with intellectual disabilities. Our journey began with just four students in a two-room space, built with simple cloth partitions and immense determination. Over the years, with unwavering faith and community support, ABAKBS has grown into a recognized residential and vocational center, nurturing over 50 students from marginalized families.

We provide special education, speech therapy, physiotherapy, and vocational training in areas such as candle making, file making, stitching, and screen printing. Our aim is not only to care for children but to prepare them for dignified, self-reliant lives.

Because every child deserves care, confidence, and community.

Choosing ABAKBS means believing in the right of every intellectually disabled child to live with dignity. We focus not only on care but on transformation — through education, therapy, and work opportunities that help them become active members of society.

All you need to know about our work, programs, and impact.

We believe transparency builds trust. Here are some common questions about our organization and the way we serve children with intellectual disabilities.

1. What kind of children does ABAKBS work with?

We work with children and young adults who have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities (IQ below 70). These are children who need structured guidance, therapy, and patient care to learn basic academic and life skills. We do not admit individuals with severe mental illness such as schizophrenia or depression.

2. How did ABAKBS begin its journey?

The organization began in 1999 after our founder witnessed the mistreatment of mentally challenged children in his own family and community. Determined to make a difference, he pursued a Diploma in Special Education and dedicated his life to helping such children through compassion and training.

3. What facilities are available at your center?

Our center includes residential accommodation, classrooms, therapy rooms, vocational workshops, and a dining area where students receive three nutritious meals daily. We also provide personal hygiene training and recreational activities to build social behavior and confidence.

4. How do you support the students’ families?

We conduct regular awareness camps in nearby slum and rural areas to educate parents about intellectual disability and the importance of special education. We also provide counseling sessions to help families support their children emotionally and practically.

5. How can someone contribute to ABAKBS?

Individuals and organizations can support us through online donations, sponsoring meals, educational materials, or vocational equipment. We also welcome volunteers who wish to teach, assist, or spread awareness about intellectual disabilities.
